Tasks
As part of the atmosphere science group, I will be deploying gas flux chambers on the sea ice, and monitoring measurements being taken from instrument towers on the ship and ice camp above the ice.
Science Questions
We want to synthesize direct gas transfer measurements with ocean-ice biogeochemical and ice observations to better understand the factors that control gas exchange in the Arctic. We'll be measuring a variety of gases: ozone, dimethyl sulfide, carbon dioxide and methane, all of which are important climate-actives gas.
What are you most excited about the expedition?
I'm excited to be involved in this large collaboration and work with so many other scientists. We've built several new instruments and are attempting measurements very few research groups have done previously. The scope of what we're trying to accomplish and the remote and harsh conditions will surely afford major challenges, but that's part of the appeal.
What do you love most about the Arctic?
Its unique beauty and significance.
