I will be making measurements of how solar radiation is partitioned by the sea ice cover

Science Questions

I will be working on quantitative measurements of the partitioning of sunlight by the sea ice cover. This partitioning is known to be sensitive to changes in the physical properties of the ice, including the presence of snow, development of surface scattering layers, melt ponds, and rotten ice.

What are you most excited about the expedition?

The opportunity to study the sea ice cover for an entire year is exceptional. I am most excited to witness the evolution of summer melt processes during the expedition.

What do you love most about the Arctic?

I love the fact that the Arctic looks, feels, behaves so uniquely. There is no place on the planet to compare it with. It is such an essential element of Earth's climate system, yet it is difficult to access and so few humans have ever set foot there.
