Tasks

I will be assisting the sea ice team in taking measurements of snow and sea ice properties.

Science Questions

How do various snow properties (such as snow depth, salinity, grain size) affect the ICESat-2 return signal? Can we deduce any penetration of the green ICESat-2 laser into the snow pack? How do ICESat-2 sea ice freeboard retrievals compare to in situ measurements?

What are you most excited about the expedition?

I am most excited to be in the Arctic and have the ability to observe the sea ice in person. As with any field campaign, I expect there to be challenges. However, due to the careful planning done by the MOSAiC leadership, I expect that we will be able to work through any obstacles that may arise.

What do you love most about the Arctic?

I love how the Arctic sea ice can appear static and unchanging (and even boring) when viewed from afar, but when observed up close, it is actually very dynamic—constantly moving, changing, and full of life!
